It’s no secret that the Yankee rotation has been a major surprise and the strength of the team roughly a third of the way through the season, and on Thursday, the pitching staff made a claim that none other in franchise history has been able to do before.
After allowing just one run in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, the Yanks’ runs allowed total for the 2022 season reached just 151, which edged the 1910 team by one run for the fewest allowed by a Yankee team through the first 50 games of a season.
No other Yankee team since 1952 has allowed fewer than 159.
The Yankees’ run prevention is also among the best in American League history, as James Smyth of the YES Network noted that the team’s 151 runs allowed through the first 50 games is the second fewest in the AL in the Wild Card era, trailing only the 126 runs allowed by the 2018 Astros armed with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.
