The Yankees have reportedly made a trade with the team they were facing at the time of the deal.
According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, the Bombers have acquired Jose Caballero from the rival Rays in exchange for Everson Pereira and a player to be named later.
As a result, Caballero was pulled from Thursday’s Yanks/Rays game, which had just resumed following a two hour and 45 minute rain delay. He won’t have to travel far to join his new team.
The speedy Caballero is currently tied for the MLB lead in stolen bases with 34, though his bat leaves a bit to be desired. The 28-year-old infielder holds an 81 OPS+ in 234 at-bats this season, hitting just two home runs while batting .226. he is hitting .225 with a .642 OPS for his career, spanning three seasons. The 28-year-old led the league in steals last season with 44.
Pereira saw big-league action back in 2023, hitting .151 in 27 games.
