The Yankees joined exclusive company late Tuesday night thanks to Giancarlo Stanton’s walk-off grand slam in the Bronx, capping off an improbable comeback against the Pirates that was sparked by Aaron Judge’s 60th home run of the season.
The Stanton slam came just over a month after Josh Donaldson belted an opposite-field, walk-off grand slam to stun the Rays on Aug. 17, meaning the Yanks now have two “true walk-off grand slams” in 2022, or a walk-off slam that is hit when the team is trailing by three runs.
Per Elias Sports Bureau, the Yankees are just the second team in league history to hit two true walk-off slams in the same season, joining the 1956 Pirates, who had a walk-off grand slam come in the form of an inside-the-parker by Roberto Clemente.
