The Baka Boyz

The Baka Boyz, Nick and Eric Vidal, are two brothers from Bakersfield, California that have dominated the air waves for over 30 years. From producing and remixing classic tracks to hosting nationally syndicated hit programs, the Baka Boyz have established themselves as radio royalty. They currently broadcast a live weekly show on Los Angeles’ 93.5 KDAY and continue to produce their three internationally syndicated shows “All Star Hit Mix,” “Hip-Hop MasterMix” and “Hip-Hop MasterMix Classic.”

As some of the most naturally talented entertainers on the radio, the Baka Boyz owe their success to hard work and their passion for music that started at a young age. Their father would take them to professional gigs long before they were old enough to drive and he invested in their DJ equipment when he realized this was more than just a hobby. At just 11-years-old Nick started DJing at their family-owned teenage nightclub “VIDALS” and quickly gained a reputation as the “Wonderkid DJ from Bakersfield.” Together, Eric and Nick V garnered popularity for their fast talk, natural improv skills, and live mixes.

In 1993, popular music culture was forever changed when the Baka Boyz joined Power 106 in Los Angeles. As the most authoritative show on the radio, the Baka Boyz radio program “Friday Night Flavas,” contributed to the rise of hip-hop in Los Angeles. Their selections brought hip-hop from depths of late-night programming, to the light of mainstream radio and the coveted morning show slot.

Under the reign of the Baka Boyz, Power 106 in Los Angeles became the mecca for upcoming artists. Household names like Cypress Hill, Ice Cube, B.E.P, Jay Z, The Wu-Tang Clan, Diddy, Biggie Smalls, and Eminem were all given their first shot on the show. With Eric on the turntables and Nick V manning the microphone, the Baka Boyz dominated the industry almost overnight. They pushed the boundaries of standard radio programming with their raw talent and gave birth to “The World Famous Roll Call” and the “Cali Caliente Power Mix Weekend.”

The Baka Boyz expanded their influence beyond radio DJing when they remixed Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” In addition, they remixed T-Pain and Ne-yo’s “Turn All the Lights On,” J. Cole’s “Work Out,” The Offspring’s “Pretty Fly for a White Guy,” Beyonce’s “Love on Top,” and the West Coast classic “Pistol Grip Pump” which was covered by Rage Against the Machine.

The Baka Boyz have delivered groundbreaking contributions to popular music since the 90’s, forever impacting the shape of hip-hop music culture. Throughout their career they gained a devoted audience through various programs and are currently heard in over 60 markets with an estimated 3 million weekly listeners.
