Two men boarding a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport last month were kicked off for wearing a scuba-inspired mask that violated the airline's policy, according to a report.
On Jan 23, Rob Joseph and his brother were on a United Airlines flight heading to Florida wearing a Narwall Mask, inspired by scuba diving gear which they were repeatedly told to replace with cloth coverings or they wouldn't be allowed to fly, northjersey.com reports.
The brothers were stopped multiple times by United employees and given surgical masks to wear instead.
They were cleared by TSA workers but eventually stopped from boarding by a flight attendant who later kicked them off the flight after refusing to remove their masks, the report adds.
Joseph said he pulled up United’s mask policy on his phone to showed to the flight attendant but a United spokesman said it was out of compliance with their mask policy.
The brothers eventually gave in and wore the cloth and surgical masks and seven hours later boarded a United flight to Florida.
