As the U.S. continues to attempt to contain COVID-19, Dr. Anthony Fauci says he believes the nation is still “many, many more vaccine mandates” away from slowing or stopping the virus’s spread.

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease declared that’s the position the country is in as the unvaccinated continue to hold fast in their resistance, and that more mandates at businesses and schools might be the only way to truly move the needle at this point.

"I believe that's going to turn this around because I don't think people are going to want to not go to work or not go to college... They're going to do it," Fauci told CNN Sunday. "You'd like to have them do it on a totally voluntary basis, but if that doesn't work, you've got to go to the alternatives."
With the nation’s vaccination numbers currently sitting at 63% according to the CDC, President Joe Biden last week announced a new mandate for businesses that employ 100 or more people to require either vaccination or regular testing of its workers.

Fauci believes such mandates are necessary because the millions of unvaccinated Americans combined with the highly-contagious Delta variant have put the U.S. into a “very difficult period” of the COVID pandemic.
