Hugh Grant found an “Angel” in Drew Barrymore amid one of the most distressing periods in his life.

During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Grant reminisced how the “Charlie’s Angels” star reached out following his arrest after being caught with sex worker Divine Brown in 1995. During the time of the incident, the actor was dating Elizabeth Hurley.

"Oh my god, you did, you were so nice!" Grant said. "It was during the dark days of my Divine Brown scandal, I was just an idiot. I was a grown-up idiot who got caught by the police."

Barrymore sent Grant a supportive letter even though they hadn’t met.

"I was back in England with 5,000 members of the press around the borders of my farm,” said Grant, “and I opened a letter, from you, that was very supportive and nice, and it was very cheering up and I thought, 'I love Drew Barrymore.' Words of support from an actress I didn't know in Hollywood was lovely, so you will always have a place in my heart."

That bond increased when the two eventually starred together in the 2007 film, "Music and Lyrics."

Barrymore elaborated on how her own struggles as a child star motivated her to reach out to Grant with empathy.

"I loved you so much,” said Barrymore to Grant, “that whole incident I related in my own life, and I think that whether it's an actor or politician or anything in between, we expect people to be infallible, perfect, never flawed, and God forbid we do anything in our personal lives that we would like to remain personal — but we don't have that privilege at a certain point because the cat gets let out of the bag — and I just had to reach out to you.”

While Grant and Hurley split in 2000, the 60-year-old is now married to Swedish television producer Anna Eberstein, with who he has three children. The father of five also has two other kids from a previous relationship.
