The Oregon Ducks have named senior, Anthony Brown the starting quarterback ahead of their home opener against Fresno State, Saturday. In case you forgot, Brown transferred to Eugene before the 2020 season and sat behind Tyler Shough. As the corona-season wore and Shough’s play continued to stagnate, fans and analysts alike were calling for Brown to get more snaps. He had some flashes versus USC & Iowa State near the end of 2020, but now those flashes need to be the norm.
Brown steps into a starting position with an array of competition in the waiting.
True Freshman quarterback, Ty Thompson is seen to be the anointed future of this team. When that happens, we’re not sure. Encouraging reports regarding the rookie’s stellar potential has created a real demand for his early ascension. Two other highly recruited prospects, Robby Ashford and Jay Butterfield, will most likely miss out on seeing time this season.
What will be most important for Brown is his consistency in the pocket. We all know he can run the ball, rushing for 463 yards and six touchdowns over five seasons as a college quarterback (That’s with limited time on the field). Can Brown fit into offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead’s air-raid system? That’s something to keep an eye on.
