But this time, it appears as if Hernandez got the call right.

During the sixth inning of an 8-5 San Diego Padres loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field, Machado was hit by a pitch from Drew Smith on his right arm while attempting to check his swing on an 0-2 count.

The home plate ump awarded Machado first base, but Smith turned to appeal to Hernandez, who was stationed at first, and he determined Machado did not check his swing, resulting in a strikeout for the first out of the inning.

Machado’s jaw dropped in disbelief, removing his helmet and appears to shout, “no way.”

Padres manager Bob Melvin came out to defend his player, but replay showed that Machado indeed brought his bat across home plate, therefore he swung despite being hit by the pitch.

Machado was none too pleased with this call and took his anger out in the dugout.

Despite Machado’s frustrations, Hernandez got this one right and baseball Twitter had his back.
