Mariners beat writer for The Athletic, Corey Brock, returns to the Daily Ticker to speak with Dirt & Sprague about all the drama going down in Seattle. The Mariners have already made a couple of moves with more expected before Friday's MLB Trade Deadline, but is the goal to get to the playoffs this season or still looking to the future?
But before getting into draft talk, what was the whole deal with Kendall Graveman getting traded?
"Well I guess the nice part is they didn't have to pay for Graveman to fly to Houston," Brock joked. "The optics of the trade don't look good. The Mariners and playing some of their best baseball this season, and you're moving your best closer to a team ahead of you in the standings."
There does seem to be a silver lining to the deal. Brock says that infielder Abraham Toro is a solid infielder for the M's, and could benefit the team in the long run."I think from a baseball sense it's a good trade, but the optics of it just look bad."
The trade deadline could be a difficult situation for Seattle, who Brock says are going through an impressive stretch of play so far, this season. "Realistically, as well as the team is playing their competitive window is right now. They just slammed their foot in that opening."
