The Seattle Seahawks will wake up Wednesday morning in a new reality. No more insane scrambling passes. No more extended plays. No more resolute positivity. No more displays of corny team spirit. No more Russell Wilson.
After weeks of negotiations, in one of the largest trades in NFL history, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos have agreed to terms for a deal involving Super-Bowl winning QB Russell Wilson. Denver is trading its 2022 first-round pick (No. 9 overall), its 2023 first-round pick, its 2022 second-rounder (No. 40 overall), another second-round pick in 2023 and a 2022 fifth to acquire Wilson.
The Broncos will also receive a 2022 fourth-round pick in return. Additionally, tight end Noah Fant is reportedly being sent to Seattle.
Wilson will no doubt go down as the greatest player in franchise history. He’s the club’s only Super Bowl winning quarterback, franchise passing leader and the only NFL quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards, rush for 500 yards, and throw more than 30 touchdowns in the same NFL season. His positivity and upbeat attitude also served as a cultural extension to the team’s identity.
There will of course be detractors to Wilson’s legacy who say his success was on the coattails of an incredible defense. But we all know the QB is the most important player on the field, and Wilson lived up to that title more times than not.
It will be interesting to see how Bronco fans take to his unique brand of leadership and energy. Mr. Unlimited… OUT.
