DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Mavericks forward Dwight Powell is among 10 players nominated for the NBA Community Assist Award.
The National Basketball Association awards the Community Assist Award for community engagement, philanthropic activity, and charity work.
It is a monthly award, but a full-season and offseason awards have also been given.
Powell was awarded a monthly award in October 2018. He's now nominated for a season-long award.
Powell won the October award in recognition of his efforts to support families battling cancer in the North Texas area after losing his mother to breast cancer in 2012.
Powell hosted “A Night of Hope” with help from Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle. The sold-out fundraiser raised more than $600,000 for the Dwight Powell Children and Family Support Fund.
“Much of what I’ve learned from Mark Cuban, Coach Carlisle and Dirk Nowitzki throughout the years has been about how important it is to help this community, which has given us such incredible support,” said Powell. “I’m proud to say I’m a Maverick for that reason most of all.”
