OXNARD (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Cowboys management believes its made a move with Ezekiel Elliott in the form of a "generous'' contract extension offer that would likely make him one of the top two- or three highest-paid running backs in the NFL.
But while Elliott holds out, the Cowboys coaching staff has made a move of its own, with rookie running back Tony Pollard taking the bulk of the snaps with the first team in Tuesday's morning walkthrough here at training camp in Oxnard.
"I just want to be able to be a playmaker in all areas of the field,'' said Pollard, who grew up with Reggie Bush as his favorite player and who doesn't shy from hoping he can be in Dallas what Alvin Kamara is in New Orleans.
That dream is off to a good start for the fourth-round pick from Memphis. Pollard has in no time erased the notion that he is just a "gadget guy'' -- a reference to his offensive versatility -- and certainly seems more than capable, so far, of being able to serve as the backup to All-Pro Elliott once he joins the team.
Pollard runs and moves like a scatback but at 6-0, 210, may have "every-down-back'' size. And for now? Even with veteran runner Alfred Morris recently joining the team (as Zeke insurance at the least), Pollard is about to get a chance to demonstrate all of his attributes.
Pollard, said QB Dak Prescott, "is one of the most exciting players, to me, of this training camp."
Not quite as exciting as a Zeke signing. But for now? It'll have to do.
