ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - Despite a fire that broke out over the weekend, Globe Life Field is still on track for a March completion.
Manhattan Construction Company, Globe Life Field's general contractor, says while inspections are still ongoing, it does not anticipate any delays in the opening of the Rangers' new ballpark.
The Arlington Fire Department says the two-alarm blaze on Saturday was caused by sparks from a welder that ignited combustible materials being stored on the sub-roof below.
It took firefighters 37 minutes to contain the blaze, which damaged about 2,000 square feet of roof area.
That section will be removed, inspected and replaced.
A limited amount of metal decking will also need to be replaced.
The Rangers will be moving into Globe Life Field for the 2020 season, with their first game, an exhibition against the St. Louis Cardinals, scheduled for March 23.
