The former executive knows a thing or two about quarterback play in the NFL, specifically when it comes to the Cowboys. On Wednesday Brandt, via Twitter, shared his top five Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks of all-time, and let’s just say his list was controversial.
Again, it is hard to argue against Brandt as he has forgotten more football knowledge than most of us can probably remember.
His placement of Staubach and Aikman as the top two quarterbacks in franchise history goes without saying. Staubach, affectionately known as ‘Captain Comeback’, won 2 Super Bowls. Aikman, of course, engineered 3 Super Bowl wins during the 90’s.
Brandt’s list sparked controversy though with his placement of Dak Prescott ahead of both Danny White and Tony Romo. Prescott has played four full seasons and has won just one playoff game. White won 62 games in 92 starts leading the Cowboys to the 1980 NFC Championship game. Romo is the franchise leader in passing yards, touchdowns, and quarterback rating and won two playoff games. Despite the accomplishments of White and Romo, Brandt puts the 2016 Rookie of the Year in Prescott ahead of both.
There is no doubt that Prescott has a chance to potentially break every significant passing record in Cowboys history maybe even winning a Super Bowl, especially having won 40 games in his first four seasons. But Prescott’s placement on this list ahead of White and Romo may be premature given the long rich history of the Cowboys.
Nevertheless, Brandt and his hall of fame credentials have sparked some serious conversation among the Dallas Cowboys faithful about who the top quarterbacks are in franchise history.
