Texas placed right-hander Shawn Kelley on the injured list retroactive to Monday with what the club describes as an infection.
Kelley has been strong out of the Rangers bullpen this season with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings of work. He is currently the interim closer while Jose Leclerc attempts to get on track after a difficult start to the season.
Texas recalled reliever Wei-Chieh Huang from Triple-A Nashville to take Kelley's place on the active roster.
The Rangers also activated first baseman Ronald Guzman, as expected. The club opened a spot on the roster for his return by demoting struggling outfielder Delino DeShields to Nashville after Thursday's win over Pittsburgh.
