DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Mavericks power forward Dwight Powell will decline his $10.2 million player option for the 2019-20 season and will become an unrestricted free agent, sources tell Yahoo's Chris Haynes

Powell signed a four-year, $37 million contract in 2016.

Haynes reports that Powell is expected to have "multiple suitors" when free agency begins on either June 30 or July 1. A recent report from ESPN said the NBA would move the start of free agency up from midnight on July 1 to 6 p.m. est. on June 30.

During an interview with the Ben and Skin Show after the season, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban expressed a desire for Powell to stay with the team for another three years. For his part, Powell also expressed his desire is to stay in Dallas during exit interviews.
105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher says Dallas can offer offer Powell a four-year extension worth more than $50 million.

Powell, should he agree to the extension #Mavs plan to propose, can get a raise of up to 20% in the first new year and then raises of 8% after. Example: The $10.3M for next year, then $12.36M (in 2020-21), then $13.35M (in 2021-22) then $14.35M (in 2022-23) = $50.3M for 4 years. pic.twitter.com/wrMKBEVomN

Dallas acquired Powell and Rajon Rondo in a trade with the Boston Celtics.
