DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Former Dallas Stars netminder Ed Belfour was arrested Tuesday morning at a hotel in Bowling Green, Kentucky after he caused damage to the property and was "manifestly under the influence of alcohol to a point he was a danger to himself and others," according to an arrest report obtained by the Bowling Green Daily News.
According to the report, officers responded to the Kentucky Grand Hotel and Spa after receiving a complaint of a "drunk and disorderly subject." Police discovered a man later identified as Belfour laying on the hotel floor "clutching a curtain rod that had been ripped out of the drywall above a window next to him. The subject was kicking the spa door while he was laying on the ground."
The citation also described Belfour as having "slow slurred speech and bloodshot eyes." He also and had trouble standing up and smelled of alcohol.
Belfour was not compliant when officers attempted to take him into custody, the report says.
According to a witness who called police, Belfour attempted to fight a hotel employee and punched a glass window in anger before attempting to "force his way into the spa."
Belfour was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
The 54-year-old won the Stanley Cup with the Stars in 1999 and was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
