PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo is no longer on the Exempt/Commissioner’s List.
The move comes a day after assault charges were dismissed against Chickillo.
“Anthony Chickillo has been taken off the Exempt/Commissioner’s List by the NFL Office, effective immediately,” Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert said in a statement. “The League will continue to conduct an investigation of the incident, and we acknowledge that Anthony could still be subject to discipline by the League Office under the Personal Conduct Policy.”
Charges of Simple Assault, Criminal Mischief and Harassment were all withdrawn against Chickillo.
Chickillo was arrested October 20 after a domestic incident.
It happened at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort when Chickillo and his girlfriend, Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman, got into a physical altercation over table games according to a criminal complaint.
Chickillo claimed Newman hit him in the head.
Newman says she only did so after Chickillo had grabbed her and pushed her against the wall.
Newman was charged with harassment but those charges were also withdrawn.
While on the Commissioner’s Exempt list a player is not allowed to practice, play or attend games.
The Steelers released linebacker Jayrone Elliot to make room for Chickillo.
