DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - With their kicker situation still up in the air, the Dallas Cowboys are moving on from Tristan Vizcaino, releasing him on Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy announced before practice.
With the release of Vizcaino, the only kicker presently on the Cowboys roster is rookie Brandon Aubrey.
The Cowboys' first preseason game kicks off this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where presumably, Aubrey will have the starting kicking duties.
“We’re always open for business," McCarthy said. "But I’m excited about our young guy (Brandon Aubrey)."
Vizcaino's release comes after he and Aubrey struggled to make kicks in Saturday's practice, drawing boos from Cowboys fans in attendance.
According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Vizcaino made 22 of his 35 field goal attempts in eight padded practices, while Aubrey was narrowly better, converting 26 of 35 attempts.
Aubrey most recently kicked in the USFL, making 32 of 36 field goal attempts last season. A Plano native, he was originally a professional soccer player, before transitioning to the NFL.
