DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys are “close” to an agreement with wide receiver Michael Gallup on a new contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday.
The financials of a potential deal are unknown at this time.
105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt confirmed Schefter's story a short time later Friday and said although a deal "doesn't sound imminent," there is "plenty of confidence" a deal gets done to keep the 26-year-old in Dallas.
Earlier Friday, Schefter reported that Dallas was "likely" moving on from wideout Amari Cooper, and hours later, Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson reported that Dallas viewed it as an "either/or" situation between Gallup and Cooper, and have prioritized keeping Gallup.
The Cowboys received positive news last month about Gallup's recovery from the torn ACL he suffered at the end of the 2021 season. According to Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus, Gallup is expected to be fully healthy well before the start of the regular season.
Prior to his ACL injury in Week 17, the 26-year-old missed several games with a calf injury and finished the season with 32 receptions for 409 yards and one touchdown in eight games.
