DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks are set to stretch-and-waive center JaVale McGee and re-sign Markieff Morris, according to reports from the Athletic's Shams Charania.
Last season with Dallas, McGee appeared in 42 games, starting seven, and averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 8.5 minutes per game.
McGee had originally signed a three-year $17.2 million fully guaranteed deal withe the Mavs, with an average of $5.7 million per year.
By stretching and waiving McGee the Mavs will owe the veteran $11.74 million over the next five years, at an average of $2.34 million per season.
To subsequent re-signing of McGee, while surprising, will give the Mavs another big body depth piece on the bench.
Morris appeared in eight games, averaging 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.8 minutes.
