Mike Bacsik: I was wrong about the Mavericks

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Mike Bacsik had very high expectations for the Mavericks before the season began. And, let's just say, those expectations have now been lowered a bit.

Prior to the season, Bacisk predicted the Mavs would finish as the third or fourth seed in the Western Conference, which would give them home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. He added that he was hopeful they could advance to the conference finals where they would lose to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

His faith in the team has since waned as the Mavericks have now lost three games in a row to see their record drop to 6-7. Two of those losses came against two of the worst teams in the NBA - the Toronto Raptors and the Chicago Bulls.

In their defense, the Mavericks have been dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak. But Bacsik says he's seen enough to know that he overrated the team's role players.

"I, unfortunately, watched every second of preseason basketball and bought into some things that really aren't happening in the regular season," Bacsik said. "(Things such as) role players, offensive efficiency, things I was wrong on. People (on Twitter last night and this morning) said, 'well, you said they'd be a three or four seed.' I did. I was wrong. I'm sorry that I probably wasn't going to be right now that.

"I have changed from them being a three or four seed to them probably being between the six and ten seed. I do think it's going to get muddled up between six and ten. I don't think there's going to be a lot of separation. I think you're trying to get really lucky and be the six or seven seed because that keeps you away from the Lakers (in the playoff bracket). ... I'm hoping six or seven is the seed, but I can see the Mavericks falling to eight, nine or ten this year."

The K&C Masterpiece then discussed if the Mavericks have the worst role players among all of the championship contenders. Watch the video at the top of the post to see the discussion.
