Stars make flurry of signings to begin NHL Free Agency

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Stars opened up free agency with a flurry of signings on Wednesday morning, starting things off with the acquisition of defenseman Ryan Suter.

Shortly after the Suter signing, the Stars added goalie Braden Holtby to a 1-year deal.

Holtby, 31, appeared in 21 games last season, recording a 7-11-3 with Vancouver in 2020-21. Holtby finished 2021 with a 3.67 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage.

"We are excited to add Braden to our goaltending group," said Stars GM Jim Nill. "We're looking forward to Braden giving us the elite goaltending that he's shown he's capable of throughout his career. He has won every major award a goaltender can win and we are thrilled that a person of his pedigree is joining our organization."

The Stars weren't done there, however, announcing three more signings over a matter of minutes, adding the trio of defensemen Andreas Borgman and Alexander Petrovic, and forward Luke Glendening

Borgman, who spent the last two seasons with Tampa Bay and Toronto, has registered 13 points (3-10=13) in 55 career games.

In seven seasons in the NHL, Petrovic has appeared in 263 regular-season games for the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers, registering 50 points over that time.

On the offensive side, Glendening comes to the Stars after eight NHL seasons, with the Detroit Redwings, registering 126 points (57-69=126) in 554 career regular-season games, including three playoff games.

"Luke is a hard-working, detailed player that is very productive in all areas of the game," said Nill. "He is elite in the faceoff circle, he is a shot-blocking machine and he will play a big role on our penalty kill."
