The Atlanta Falcons have waived defensive end Takk McKinley just a week after deciding not to deal him at the trade deadline.

McKinley, 25, was drafted by Atlanta in the first round of the 2017 draft and after the team opted not to pick up his fifth-year contract option, he entered the season with many expecting a big year.

After dealing with a groin strain and illness that limited him to four game, McKinley had been very vocal and critical of the team on social media about not trading him elsewhere despite apparent trade offers.

McKinley finishes his Falcons career playing in 49 total games and compiling 79 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks and 45 quarterback hits.

"The wrong way to go about it is definitely the way Takk has handled it, and to pout," interim head coach Raheem Morris told reporters last week.
