The Athletics recently released the 33-year-old Andrus, who hit .237 with eight homers, 30 RBIs and a .673 OPS in 106 games for Oakland this season. Andrus will have the opportunity to play immediately for the White Sox, who have a hole at shortstop with Tim Anderson sidelined until at least the latter half of September – and perhaps for the entire season – after undergoing surgery on a torn hand ligament recently.
Andrus is a 14-year MLB veteran who has hit .270 with a .695 OPS in his career. He’s expected to join Chicago ahead of its game at Cleveland on Friday.
