The Texas Rangers have avoided going to an arbitration hearing on Thursday with ALCS MVP Adolis Garcia by agreeing to a two-year deal, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
According to Audacy MLB insider Jon Heyman, Garcia will earn $14 million over the next two seasons, and the deal includes "a ton of escalators based on plate appearances and MVP votes."
According to Grant, the Rangers had proposed a salary of $5 million for 2024 during negotiations in January, while Garcia's representation asked for $6.9 million.
Since the deal is only for two years, the Rangers will still hold Garcia's rights in 2026, where he would be arbitration eligible for the final time.
Garcia is coming off the biggest year of his career in 2023, where he batted .245/.328/.508/.836 with 38 homers and 107 RBIs. He was an All-Star, Gold Glove winner, and was awarded the ALCS MVP for his heroics against the Houston Astros.
