DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers bullpen is in shambles as spring training winds down in Arizona.
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Rangers closer Jose Leclerc has soreness in his elbow and has returned to Texas to be further evaluated. The club expects him to miss "extended time."
Leclerc's injury ensures that the Rangers will be without their top two arms in the bullpen at the start of the season, as reliever Jonathan Hernandez suffered a UCL sprain in his pitching elbow earlier this month. The club is hoping that Hernandez will be able to return by late May.
Their injuries will force the Rangers to turn to Matt Bush, Ian Kennedy and Josh Sborz as potential candidates to fill their roles at the back end of the bullpen.
