As the Ravens expected Brockers to start at defensive end, Michael Pierce signed with the Vikings. Additionally, Baltimore traded defensive end Chris Wormley to the Steelers.
Jernigan, 27, was drafted by the Ravens in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
Jernigan played 43 games (26 starts), registering 91 tackles, 13 sacks, and 35 quarterback hits with the Purple and Black.
After a successful start in Baltimore, the Ravens traded Jernigan to the Eagles for a third-round pick as a new contract extension was on the horizon.
The Eagles extended Jernigan to a four-year, $48 million contract in 2017. Later that season, Jernigan won Super Bowl LII when his Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33.
Jernigan's tenure in Philadelphia stalled shortly after, as he underwent back surgery to repair a herniated disc. After missing most of the 2018 season, he played in 10 games last year recording two sacks.
A possible reunion with the Ravens may not fill the entire hole on the defensive front, but adding Jernigan will be a solid step in the right direction. At just 27 years old, he should still have his best football ahead of him.
The Ravens could likely sign Jernigan on a shorter, less lucrative contract than what Brockers was expected to make. Baltimore could add Jernigan and another defensive tackle, such as former Colts products Margus Hunt or Jabaal Sheard.
