Best known for his Hail Mary to stun New Orleans during the 2017 playoffs, Case Keenum is heading into his 11th NFL season, with Buffalo representing his seventh team since debuting as an undrafted rookie in 2012. The journeyman has largely gone unnoticed at Bills training camp this summer, ignored by fans hoping to catch a glimpse of starter Josh Allen. Listed at a generous 6’1,” making him among the shortest quarterbacks in football, Keenum has embraced his relative anonymity, leaning into that fact by posing as an autograph-seeker (with help from the Bills video team) at a recent practice.

Keenum could have done a better job disguising himself—his bucket hat, sunglasses and exaggerated Southern drawl didn’t do much to throw teammates off the scent—though he did fool a handful of players including wide receiver Gabriel Davis, who needed a suspicious butt slap to finally put two and two together. The 34-year-old also interacted with Marquel Lee (“I’ve been a fan of yours since Wake Forest!”), Isaiah McKenzie, Dawson Knox, Quintin Morris, Dion Dawkins and of, course, Allen, who recognized him almost immediately.

The best part of Keenum’s stunt was when an annoyed security guard (clearly not in on the joke) denied his credentials, banishing him to the other side of the railing with the rest of Bills Mafia. Reunited with his former Vikings teammate Stefon Diggs (famously on the receiving end of his “Minneapolis Miracle”), the well-traveled Keenum brings valuable experience to the Bills’ huddle, serving as a veteran mentor and sounding board for Allen. Seen by many as Super Bowl favorites, the Bills should be plenty motivated after last year’s heartbreak, losing to the Chiefs in one of the most entertaining playoff games we’ve ever witnessed.
