LISTEN NOW: Going There — Noah Kahan On Anxiety, Depression, and Being Your Own Best Friend When Dealing with A Busyhead
A indie folk voice to be reckoned with, Kahan’s star has risen to establish himself as a powerhouse songwriter, festival fave, and even Post Malone collaborator. Open about his thoughts and life in his lyrics, Kahan maintained his natural level of availability when recently discussing his mental health journey.
Talks of his experiences with anxiety and depression, as well as the other feelings and thoughts that come along with them were all on the table with Dr. Mike. Noah also detailed his history with psychiatric medication such as antidepressants, as well as his feelings about other people’s biases.
“For me, what is mostly important, is being able to wake up in the morning and exist in the world in a way that allows you to get out of bed,” Noah explained. “There are baseline needs that a person has, and for me, that’s being able to get out of bed, being able to be social and to experience socializing, and to feel like I can exist. And there have been a lot times in my life that without the kickstart medication gave me, I don’t think I’d be able to do that.”
