Jerry Jones 'sick' over Aaron Rodgers injury, praises 'loaded' Jets for their resilience

Aaron Rodgers’ season was derailed four plays into his Jets career.

Jerry Jones, like the rest of us, was stunned.

Rodgers sustained an Achilles injury during the Jets’ first series in Monday’s overtime win over the Bills. Judging by Robert Saleh’s comments following the game, it seems more likely than not Rodgers’ season is over.

It’s a devastating blow to a Jets team that sent a haul of assets to the Packers to land Rodgers, then proceeded to load up around him. Now, Zach Wilson will be tasked with trying to help the Jets meet the lofty expectation they entered the season with.

The Jets showed impressive resolve after Rodgers went down, ultimately winning on a Xavier Gipson 65-yard punt return touchdown in overtime. Their next test will be in Dallas against a Cowboys team that just throttled the Giants, and Jones offered his take on the Rodgers situation Tuesday in his weekly appearance on Shan & RJ.

“Well, I was sick for everybody. Everybody. Every sports fan. We’re all sick about it,” Jones said. “I don’t have anything that anybody else doesn’t have on the extent of his injury, but it just happened so suddenly and so quickly.

“I will say this, when it happened I said 'That’s the life we’ve chosen.' Not for (Rodgers), but for everybody that relies on the help of a quarterback. It just reminded me of how fragile a season can be. Invariably, when I'm talking to anybody and they talk about disappointments, invariably, almost exclusively, you come to ‘We had a good team that year. Maybe the best team. And we got three or four injuries in the wrong place and it sidetracked us and kept us from being where we wanted.'

That’s not an excuse, obviously I was proud of the way that Jet team performed and stepped up their act. That shows what kind of team they’ve got, and they're loaded across the board at the Jets. This will be a tough game one way or the other.”
