Dak Prescott is expecting to play Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys aren’t ready to confirm that.
Prescott has missed the last five games with a fractured right thumb, which he sustained late in the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback has had what appears to be a smooth recovery, and was considered questionable heading into their loss to the Eagles, so he’s most certainly getting closer.
However, in his weekly appearance on the “K&C Masterpiece,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones wasn’t ready to give the green light.
“Well, that still remains to be seen," Jones said. "Obviously seeing where Dak is feeling really good about himself, that’s the most important thing of all is that he feels like he can throw the ball the way he needs to throw it to be successful.
“Certainly we’ll see what the week brings and see if he’ll be able to be consistent this week with how he feels with that thumb and we’ll go from there. But, again, I can’t say enough about Cooper Rush.”
Jones said there will be communication with Prescott, the medical staff, coaches and front office members to decide for good if the quarterback can go Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
Rush has done a nice job in Prescott’s place, but it seems like things continue to move in the right direction, and Prescott’s return undoubtedly will be a welcome one for Dallas.
