All hail the GOATs.
'Jeopardy: The Greatest of All Time' kicked off last night with a heated battle between the game's three highest-earning players.
All-time greats and former champs Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer duked it out, getting a lot of right answers in two rapid-fire matches.
Kennings walked away the victor of Game 1 with 45,000 points. Holzhauer came in second with 33,200 and Rutter in third with 10,400.
The evening was the first of two back-to-back nights for the tournament, the game show's first primetime special in 30 years.

Rutter had some daily double trouble
It was not a good night for Brad Rutter. The champ hit a snag, hitting two daily doubles and losing it all both times. And yes, you know Twitter noticed.

James Holzhauer live tweeted the night
Holzhauer was a trending topic while searching trending topics. While the show aired, news broke of Iran's missile attack on an Iraqi military base housing American soldiers. "#worldwar3 WILL NOT UPSTAGE US," he joked with a war cry of his own. Checked out his feed for other great moments, including this "Simpsons" reference to his own ha-ha moment and his ire at not drawing a daily double.
Ken Jennings takes night 1
Jennings won the first evening of the tournament. In this post-show clip, Jennings said, "When I talked on the phone to my wife last night, I said, 'I want to win one. That's my goal for day one.' And uh, mission accomplished!"
Night 2 of "Jeopardy: Greatest of All Time" airs Jan. 8 on ABC at 8/7c. If necessary, additional episodes will air on Jan. 10 and again the week of Jan. 14-16.
