Last week, Blake Shelton made a bold proclamation that 19-year-old contestant Cam Anthony could become the first superstar the show has produced. “I've never had more people asking me about an artist on my team in 20 seasons of doing this show, man,” Blake said at the time. “You could be the first superstar that we launch off the show.”
Shelton’s team member was riding high off the praise heading into the season finale, but he faced fierce competition from his teammate Jordan Matthew Young along with Kenzie Wheeler, who was a part of Team Kelly Clarkson.
Anthony has wowed the audience since day one and his talents have been recognized as he was named the winner of The Voice. He performed three songs in the final - “Stand Up,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and “She Drives Me Crazy,” which helped seal his victory.
“You are just so ready for this stage. You’re ready for any stage you want to be on,” John Legend said to Anthony. “It’s just amazing to watch you do what you’re supposed to be doing in this world. It’s a blessing for all of us.”
Following his win, Anthony took to Instagram Live to celebrate with fans. "I just wanted to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” he said. “This has been an amazing journey and to be able to experience this with such amazing people has been outrageous."
Anthony’s victory gave Blake Shelton his eighth win on the show.
The season finale also saw the return of longtime Voice coach and Blake Shelton nemesis Adam Levine.
Levine’s highly-anticipated appearance didn’t see the singer return to the coach’s seat. Instead, he performed with Maroon 5 as they treated fans to a rousing rendition of their new single “Beautiful Mistakes.”
