One Airbnb guest's recent getaway experience is every traveler’s worst nightmare.
A man's stay at an Airbnb in Richmond, Virginia turned frightening after he discovered a creepy dark room behind his air vent large enough for a person to hide in.
The man shared his story on Tiktok in a video that has now gained over 3.1 million views, nearly 400,000 likes, and has been shared over 18,000 times.
The man on TikTok first felt that something wasn’t right when he checked in to the home rental property and the owners appeared surprised he wasn’t a woman.
Despite initial concerns, the man checked in to the room and fell asleep. He was interrupted in the middle of the night when he heard noises coming from a vent in the wall. “I kept hearing noise from here and felt like I was being watched,” the voiceover on the video explained.
The next morning, the man investigated the strange noise and discovered a whole other room hidden behind the wall. The video captures a dim blue light that clearly shows the creepy room behind the grate of an air vent.
“Y’all be careful house here!” the unnamed user captioned the photo.
The disturbing discovery bares a striking resemblance to the true horror story of Colorado motel owner Gerald Foos who peeped on guests through air vents, as documented in the 2017 movie “Voyeur.”
A spokesperson for Airbnb told The NY Post it was unable to verify this incident, but takes “privacy violations very seriously.”
“Although our Support team has not been able to verify that this incident occurred during an Airbnb reservation, we take reported privacy violations very seriously,” a representative from the company said. “We encourage the individual who posted the video to contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer our support and investigate further.”
