Chipotle announced that it would be giving customers free guacamole on July 31, which also happens to be National Avocado Day.
If you visit a restaurant in the United States, burrito lovers can either receive a free topping or a free side of guacamole on July 31. However, you can only receive this offer through digital orders made through the Chipotle website or app.
The free guac is not available for customers who plan to eat inside a restaurant. This deal is also eligible for those who order an entree.
Fans who celebrate National Avocado Day and want free guac can insert the code AVO2021 on their digital order.
“National Avocado Day, our most popular ‘Chipotday,’ has long given our fans something extra to celebrate on July 31,” Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “We’re excited to continue the tradition this year by offering fresh, hand-mashed guac for free via our digital channels only with the promo code AVO2021.”
The restaurant chain also announced that it would be giving customers free delivery on orders from the app or website through August 1.
As for offering deals for its customers, Chipotle confirmed that it would increase menu prices to cover the cost of raising employee wages.
In May, the chain announced that it plans to hire 20,000 more employees and raise the hourly wage to $15 by the end of June.
To cover the additional cost of increasing the hourly wage, the company plans to hike the price of menu items, including burritos, tacos, salads, and bowls, by 4%.
“It feels like the right thing, at the right time, and it feels like the industry is now going to have to either do something similar or play some kind of catch-up,” CFO Jack Hartung said at the Baird Global Consumer, Technology & Services virtual conference. “Otherwise you’ll just lose the staffing gain.”
Chipotle is one of several fast-food companies, including Taco Bell and McDonald’s, adding benefits or running hiring events to lure in applicants.
