The return of Yo! MTV Raps will be hosted by DJ Diamond Kuts and battle rapper Conceited. The scheduled guests featured on the upcoming series are Freddie Gibbs, Latto, Saba, J.I.D, Shenseea, Tee Grizzley, IDK, and Trina. Similar to the original show, the reboot will have hosted segments, live performances, cyphers, and lifestyle content.
“After its debut 33 years ago on August 6, 1988, Yo! MTV Raps became the premiere destination for all things Hip Hop. The advent of the series was crucial to the rise of rap music worldwide, creating a global passion for the genre and greater Hip Hop culture, which has since become the most dominant force in mainstream music and pop culture worldwide.” MTV and Paramount’s parent company ViacomCBS released a statement, earlier this year.
The original Yo! MTV Raps, which lasted until 1995, was hosted by Ed Lover and Doctor Dre. Launched as a music video platform, it showcased Hip Hop to the mainstream. Afrika Bambaataa, N.W.A, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Ice-T, De La Soul, Eric B. & Rakim, EPMD and Ultramagnetic MC all appeared on the show at the time.
You can watch the new edition of Yo! MTV Raps on Paramount+ starting May 24.
