Social media is full of people showing off their travel experiences, with many traveling to specific locations in search of the perfect photo. As more and more of these photos go viral, other travelers make plans to do the same, in hopes of getting more likes on their pages. Now, in response to all these copycat travelers, New Zealand has released a video shaming these photo seekers, telling them to “share something new.”
In the now viral video, released by the country as part of a new tourism campaign, travelers are urged to stop traveling "under the social influence." Comedian Tom Sainsbury stars in the video as a member of the "Social Observation Squad,” as he follows tourists to some of the country’s most famous landscapes. “I've been alerted to a situation that's been happening a lot lately. People have been seeing those photos on social media, and they're going to great lengths to copy them,” says Sainsbury in the video.
This is not the first time a New Zealand tourism campaign has gone viral. Their long-running "Do Something New" campaign also includes a song by local celebrities Madeleine Sami and Jackie van Beek. Hopefully this video ends their copycat problem.
