Videos of the 24-year-old belting out his hit, ”Rock and A Hard Place” off-key in front of a pool full of festival-goers quickly made the rounds on social media since the January 18 performance. Three days later, Zimmerman is tackling all the gossip directly.

"I was always raised up to hit my problems head-on and never to lie and always be truthful and honest — even when you're embarrassed," Zimmerman stated in a video posted to his Instagram account where he called his festival showing “absolutely awful.”

“I feel like you guys deserve an explanation from me because you've had my back through the highs and lows and through every mistake,” he continued. “What happened was, I decided to drink that day — which was a mistake — and I got up on stage and I was too drunk to play. I sang awful, I played awful, nobody got the show that they wanted or paid for, and I'm disappointed in myself."

After taking ownership for his actions and less-than-desirable performance, Zimmerman apologized to all fans and promised to do “everything in my power” to make sure it never happens again while also asking for “a little bit of grace,” in the process.

“To anybody that’s embarrassed of me… I’m embarrassed as well,” he stated. “I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that this never happens ever again, and I want to show you guys the person that I truly am… I’m just asking for a little bit of grace.”
