During Sunday night’s 66th annual GRAMMY Awards, Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottom Country was awarded Best Country Album and as she made her way to the stage, the cameras panned to Kelsea Ballerini, who was also nominated in the category with her project, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat.
While Ballerini was applauding Wilson, her expression was less than enthusiastic which fueled the fire of Internet trolls everywhere. The comments eventually made their way to Ballerini, who is now speaking out to make sure nothing is lost in translation.
"Ohhhh yall," she wrote on her Instagram Story the day after the GRAMMYs. "You can be bummed for your loss and happy for somebody else's win at the same time. Two things can be true and both hold valid and valuable space. The face reading and reaction analysis is unnecessary and hurtful to everyone."
She added, "A woman's win is a team win. Write about that instead?"
Kelsea’s nom for Rolling Up The Welcome Mat was her fourth GRAMMY nomination across 8 years. Past nominations have been for Best Country Solo Performance (“Heartfirst”), Best Country Album (Unapologetically) and Best New Artist.
