Ahead of his Totally Private concert with Audacy in Nashville, Lee Brice sat down with Katie Neal at the Hard Rock Cafe and spoke about the success of his 2020 tracks, “One of Them Girls” and "Soul," as well as being able to perform them live now that tours and shows are back at full force.

Now back on the road and touring the country after nine consecutive No. 1s, Brice said that he and his band worked hard to ensure that they were “ready to rock” once getting the go-ahead for tours.

Touching on his most recent single, “Soul,” Brice told Neal that he was apprehensive to release the song, fearing it wouldn’t be "Country enough." The artist explained that he was reassured about the track after his deeply Country uncle, Uncle Al, called him and said to him, “that song ‘Soul’, that’s gonna be a No.1 I’m telling you what right now!”

Currently, Brice is in the prerequisite stages of working on his sixth project. As he is going through demos and songs, the singer told us he’s “looking at a couple of months, maybe to go in and maybe get that first recording, and then final recordings of stuff I can start tweaking in and dialing into a record.” However, Brice reiterates that he is still in the preliminary stages of an album because he is reviewing hundreds of songs and writing new songs.

“Well, it’s new songs, I write every day,” Brice began to explain. “And then there are songs that I wrote over the last two or three years, and then there are songs that I wrote ten years ago that I’ve still always loved just as much as this song I wrote yesterday, that I knew that at some point they were going to a find a space.”

For Lee, it’s not just the decision-making process that affects his music. He adds that his mood and everyday components of his life go into the music he creates. A lot of the artist’s music has been influenced by his family, and his last record, Hey World, which saw elements of what he felt and experienced during the pandemic. “Now I’m in a place of a lot of appreciation,” said the Country crooner. “I always go with the flow of what I’m feeling that day, and try to be truthful about it.”

Taking a moment to be introspective about his career thus far, Lee says that oftentimes he reflects on the success of his Country peers around him and feels grateful that they support each other. The singer said that when Zach Brown “randomly showed up” to congratulate him on the success of his music and sweeping “Song of the Year” across Country award shows, that was a moment he took stock of and has continued to be grateful for.

“This is kinda how you always hoped and kinda thought it would be, and dreamed it would be,” noted Brice. “But it’s also just reality, just normal people doing normal things. But we also don’t take for granted that we get to do extraordinary, get up on a big stage and do special stuff, and do what we love.”
