Lainey Wilson is a shining star in today’s generation of Country music and regardless of all her number one hits, millions of streams, successful albums and tours, the 32-year old says she still gets nervous before every single gig.
LISTEN NOW: Lainey Wilson explains how dirt, rocks, and family keep her nerves under control
Whether she’s playing for a small room of record execs, a stadium full of her fans, or a television program broadcast to millions, the Baskin, Louisiana native says she relies on one thing to keep her nerves under control.
“I try to make sure I talk to my family a lot, I FaceTime my nephews a lot during the day if they’re around,” she said of her ritual before appearances to keep her nerves at bay. “I try to do just whatever I can to feel calm, completely normal and completely sane.”
While her family keeps her zen, Wilson says they are not naturally calm people. “My family is not normal at all — they are absolutely crazy,” she laughed. “I don’t know why I choose to call them to calm me down, but I do. I mix the crazy with the crazy… that helps.”
Aside from connecting with her loved ones, Wilson says she also tries to ground herself in nature before hitting the stage. “I just try to get grounded — put my feet in the dirt. Even like, holding onto a rock in my hand just kind of keeps you feeling grounded and centered.”
Lainey will have the opportunity to plant her feet in the dirt of several countries around the world as she recently revealed plans for her Whirlwind World Tour. Set to kick off in March, Wilson's worldwide trek will include stops at Zurich’s X-TRA, Paris’ Elysée Montmartre, New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Austin’s Moody Center, Baton Rouge’s Raising Cane’s River Center Arena, and Denver’s Ball Arena, among many others.
Joining Wilson as special guests on the tour will be ERNEST, Muscadine Bloodline, Kaitlin Butts, Maddox Batson, Drake Milligan, Lauren Watkins, and Zach Meadows. Tickets are on sale now and can be found here.
