Here’s the thing about K.Flay: she knows what she’s doing. It could be a crowd of 200 or 2,000, it doesn’t matter – this woman can fill a room entirely with her energy and presence. It’s incredibly obvious that she has been performing her craft for some time now; she’s very comfortable on stage and she loves to move around and dance and get close to the crowd. She just has this vibe about her that resonates all around, and I could feel it even from the back of the room.
One of my favorite parts of the show, and the part that made my little Seattle music-nerd heart SO happy, was when K.Flay did a SWEET cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium.” Of course, it only seemed fitting to cover these grunge-rock legends in their hometown, and it was such a cool opportunity to hear this song being played live, something that I would consider a rare occasion.
Another really neat moment came when she sang a stripped-down, slower version of her song “High Enough,” and she told everyone in the audience to put their arm around someone they came to the show with in order to turn the moment into “our own little high school dance.” It was a sweet instance and a nice breather right in the middle of the set.
K.Flay ended her set by playing “Blood in the Cut,” and this was hands down the most exciting moment of the show. The audience went wild for this song, jumping and dancing and screaming along to the words; everyone was getting really into it, and you could tell that K.Flay was really loving and feeding off the energy from the crowd.
Overall, it was a crazy good show. K.Flay is a very raw and down-to-earth human being, and she makes it apparent not only in her lyrics and her stage presence, but with the little stories she tells on stage in between songs. She’s very real, and I love that about her. I am looking forward to hearing more new music from her in the future!
