There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching a group of people go absolutely mad for a band that they love. Going to see Wallows provided me with that sight. I wasn’t aware that this band was a popular as they are, but walking into a packed venue and then seeing the entire room jumping, dancing, and singing along, it was very clear that I was wrong (and for good reason).

What I like most about Wallows – consisting of Braeden Lemasters (guitar/vocals), Cole Preston (drums), and Dylan Minnette (guitar/vocals) – is that they have this vibe about them where you could go between lightly swaying back and forth to going absolutely crazy, jumping and dancing – in the span of the same song. Now just imagine a packed room full of people doing this exact sequence, and that’s how their song “Scrawny,” from their new album Nothing Happens, went down. I think one of the most entertaining moments of the whole show, for me at least, was hearing an entire room of people screaming “scrawny mother effer with a cool hairstyle,” and it was definitely something that I’m glad I got to experience.

Another one of my favorite parts of the evening was when Wallows played their new single “Are You Bored Yet?”, which features the artist, Clairo who sings a full verse of song. During this part of the song, the band told the crowd to sing that verse – and the audience delivered – and it was one of the loudest moments of the whole show.

The band mostly played songs off their new album, which I personally think is a wonderful record for the soon-approaching summer, but they also threw in a handful of older songs from past EPs, which pleased the fans who’ve been listening to these guys for a while.
It’s safe to say that I had an absolute blast at this show. The guys in Wallows were extremely fun and entertaining, and they really knew how to get the crowd amped up. I will definitely be seeing them again when they’re back in town!
