After a couple decades of shaping the sound of music with roots in damp basements of the Pacific Northwest, it is so satisfying to read that Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie has his own custom Fender guitar.
"When Fender approached me about doing a custom Mustang, I wanted to make a guitar that was basically built for someone who was singing and playing guitar at the same time," Gibbard tells Fender fans.
The modern Mustang is already pretty light weight, Ben's vintage 70's guitars less so, but with a chambered body (pockets are router cut under the face), it makes standing on stage less of an effort but might also blow away should the right gust hit it! Jokes aside, the sustain on this guitar should ring out so beautifully.
Listen to how Fender guitarists Mason Stoops puts it through its paces - especially the awesome etherial part at 3:59:
I've owned several guitars, but never a Fender (only because I've never had the money for the one's I want), but this could be the first one that gets me to cash in some crypto and make a sweet purchase. Grab your own in the Fender shop for $1099.99, and have a legit replica of what Gibbard uses on stage when we get back to shows again.
