Sounders FC season ticket holders got good news - way more sweaty humans can pack start to fill the stands at Lumen Field. This follows Governor Inslee's announcement that outdoors sports teams will be allowed to start vaccinated-only sections at events.
There will be two sections at Lumen Field - the south end including sections 121-123 which are under normal circumstances operated by Emerald City Supporters and up a bit higher in the 300 level. Read the full Sounders FC release on how matches will be managed starting with Atlanta United visiting on May 23rd.
This follows news from just across S Royal Brougham Way at T-Mobile Park, where the Mariners will benefit even more significantly from the vaccinated-only sections allowing the club to have approximately 5,000 extra fans per night starting May 13th, 2021.
By the nature of the baseball season, that's potentially 60+ games compared to the Mariners 15-ish. And not to be rude, but the M's will sell out at about 14,000 people which would be a pretty normal weekday night at T-Mobile in the before-times.
Let's hope that things loosen up by later in the season and we get back to fuller stadiums - not because sports are so important, but because we're beating this damn virus back and beginning to regain the luxury of yelling about a ball being played by grown adults.
