After weeks of competition, Medusa, who was unmasked as Bishop Briggs, was crowned the winner of Season 9. She outlasted fellow finale competitor, Macaw, who was unmasked as former American Idol contestant, David Archuleta.

The “River” singer had quite a run on the show after re-entering the competition as a wildcard in the quarterfinals. During the finale, she took the stage twice to perform “Elastic Heart” by Sia and “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance.

Medusa gave fans and the judging panel a run for their money as there were several incorrect guesses of her identity throughout the season. Some of those guesses included Grimes, Fergie, and Susan Boyle.

“This is the craziest, coolest thing ever! Thank you so much!” Bishop told show host Nick Cannon. “I want to say the biggest congratulations to my huge competitor, David Archuleta. When I heard you in soundcheck I said, ‘Oh no!’ But, ‘Oh, yes!’”

She continued, “This has really been such a surreal journey and the fact that I got to sing an emo anthem means so much. When I was hearing David’s story, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, look at us. A couple of emo kids here on this stage, unsure of who we are, not knowing if we wanted to continue on. And we made it! This has been the most incredible experience.”

Bishop beat out beat out 19 other masked acts vying for the prestigious, golden ear trophy this season. Other competitors this season included Dick Van Dyke (Gnome), Sara Evans (Mustang), Howie Mandel (Rock Lobster), Debbie Gibson (Night Owl), Grandmaster Flash (Polar Bear), Michael Bolton (Wolf) Malin Akerman (Squirrel), Lele Pons (Jackalope), Alexa Bliss (Axolotl), Holly Robinson Peete (Fairy), George Wendt (Moose), Christine Quinn (Scorpio), Dee Snider (Doll), Alicia Witt (Dandelion), Melissa Joan Hart (Lamp), Lou Diamond Phillips (Mantis), Keenan Allen (Gargoyle), Olivia Culpo (UFO) and Pentatonix (California Roll).
