California Punk icons Social Distortion provided fans with an update today, June 7, revealing the group will be postponing their current tour schedule and album recording sessions following frontman Mike Ness' recent stage-one tonsil cancer diagnosis.

Explaining that he's currently on the mend following tonsil surgery, Ness broke the news to Social Distortion fans with some levity saying on their social accounts, "We think that life is going to go according to our plan, but it has a way of saying ‘I don’t think so!’"
The band's upcoming tour, which was set to kick off on June 30, will now be rescheduled for a later date, and he revealed they've put a pause on the recording sessions for their follow-up to 2011's Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes.
In his post, Ness explained that the band was in the midst of pre-production for their next release when he was diagnosed, and was even feeling well enough to continue "up until the very day before" undergoing surgery. "The band and I were so inspired and excited to lay down these tracks," he added, "which by the way sound f-ing AWESOME!"
"In three weeks we start radiation and that should be the last therapy I need," he says. "The team of doctors are certain that once finished with this course, I will be able to start the healing and recovery process. We expect a full recovery enabling me to live a long and productive life.”
"It breaks my heart to postpone the Summer Tour, and this album release, but time is required to heal," Ness adds. "I can’t thank our loyal fans enough who have been waiting so patiently for this."
