The Long Term Effects Of ‘Defund the Police’ Rhetoric

Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing a wave of crime that washed over the city of Philadelphia on the weekend of July 4th, with a shooting during the fireworks with over 100 shots fired in North Philadelphia. Then, Giordano discusses a new push by Democrats in Washington to install field offices for the Capitol Police to investigate the January 6th riot.
Giordano notes the hypocrisy in calling for a defunding of police, while installing what would become, according to Newsweek, the largest police force in the entire country. Then, Giordano discusses the concept of defunding the police with a caller by the name of Paul, who insists that it’s actually Republicans who are defunding the police with their actions. Finally, Giordano ties the two topics together, explaining the dangerous nature of calling for a defunding of police and the immediate result of doing so as proven by the heightened crime in Philadelphia.

Dr. Marty Makary Clears Up Some COVID Variant Confusion

Dr. Marty Makary, one of Dom Giordano’s favorite guests and author of The Price We Pay: What Broke American Health Care and How to Fix It, rejoins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss new developments centered around the Coronavirus pandemic. First, Giordano and Makary discuss the new Delta variant of the virus, and news that the Pfizer vaccine may not be as efficient against the new variant. Makary notes that one should continue to feel great about their chances and continue living their lives as though they’re protected from the virus. Makary further explains the Delta variant, and explains what to watch for as more information comes out. Then, Makary gives an update on the herd immunity status of the United States public. Makary tells that we’ve reached the former definition of herd immunity back in late April of this year, but the goalposts continue to move.  Makary explains that herd immunity used to be when the majority of the public is protected against a threat, but that is no longer the case.
